Desaparecer
Some remember the insane staging of the Threepenny Opera by Calixto Beito in MC93. In France, The Raven, Edgar Allan Poe’s astounding poem, was translated by two geniuses : Charles Baudelaire and Stéphane Mallarmé.
In the 60s, Julio Cortázar translated Poe’s
works into Spanish and Calixto Bieito created Desaparecer (Disappear) based on the poem The Raven, The Black Cat and other stories. Juan Echanove, who has worked with all the greats of Spanish cinema, particularly Pedro Almodóvar and Penelope Cruz – in The Passion Within – is the one who disappears into the fog, into whiteness, into nothing. Maika Makovsky, the astounding Majorcan singer, takes part in this journey to the end of the night.
