The Well-Tempered Clavier

Allemagne

In Harmonia Caelestis and Woyzeck, shown during MC93's previous season, the French public discovered David Marton.

In the two volumes of the Well tempered clavier Bach developed all the possibilities arising from the recent invention of tempered tonality. For david marton, a great variety of themes are generated from the systematic organisation of preludes and fugues, from the characteristics and differences of these two musical forms, given the multiple melodies contained in Bach’s compositions. The melancholy of resistance, a novel by László Krasznahorkai is the other theme underlying this musical theatre. In a small provincial town, a strange circus has set up and is stirring up a collective revolt. Between decomposition, resistance, group dynamics and power plays, strange figures wander about searching for total harmony. A parable of decline and immobility, of power and powerlessness in a society based on a score by Bach. Coproduction with schaubühne / Berlin. A world premiere.
